From Family Trousseau to Trade Routes: The Journey of Telo d’Olanda. What made this linen so prestigious, and how did it travel from the Netherlands to Italian households? Starting from a piece of heirloom found in a family drawer, with this art project, Grazia Gallo explores the histories of mobility, migration, trade, and women’s labour woven into Telo d’Olanda. Moving between historical research, geographies, and artistic practice, the project traces the connections between intimate family histories and wider networks of movement and exchange.
Grazia Gallo will present From Family Trousseau to Trade Routes: The Journey of Telo d’Olanda on October 15, as part of the DeMeTra Days – Inside Transformative Methods, dedicated to the theme Crafting Geographies of multi(species/spatial) Crises. The presentation will take place from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM and will be followed by Mapping Mobilities: Embroidery as a Method, a workshop led by Grazia Gallo from 3:00 to 6:00 PM, exploring embroidery and textile craft as tools for mapping and geographical research on mobilities.
